How hiring works
01
Role brief
We confirm the block or SoC scope, node, flow and EDA licences, tape-out milestone, location and whether you want contract, contract-to-hire or permanent hiring.
02
Technical screening by practising engineers
Practising VLSI engineers interview on testbench architecture, DFT or timing problems, or silicon debug cases matched to the role. The method is set out on how we vet engineers.
03
Shortlist with written assessment
The shortlist includes a written assessment per candidate: tools used in production, tape-outs supported, node experience, notice period and joining date.
04
Your interviews
You interview the shortlisted engineers and choose. We coordinate panels and feedback.
05
Onboarding and follow-up
We handle contracts and onboarding onto your compute and licences, then check in regularly after the start.
Engagement options
- Staff augmentation: VLSI engineers on contract through a tape-out
- Contract-to-hire: convert to your payroll on terms agreed in the contract
- Permanent recruitment: verification leads and specialists you employ directly
- Dedicated engineering teams: a verification or DFT pod for a design centre or GCC
- Managed testing services: scoped post-silicon or ATE work
VLSI hiring market and buyer risks
Semicon 2.0, approved by the Union Cabinet on 15 July 2026 with an outlay of ₹1,27,500 crore, makes talent one of its six pillars; inc42 reports 315 universities training students on EDA tools. Graduates still need industry experience: a 2024 ITIF study estimated about 125,000 IC design workers in India, with only a small share industry-ready at graduation. Xpheno counted about 3,400 active semiconductor openings, led by design, physical design and validation and verification roles, and startups report difficulty hiring RTL, verification, DFT and physical-design engineers.
Experienced VLSI engineers commonly serve 60 to 90 days' notice, and counter-offers are frequent when several design centres chase the same profile. Contract engineers keep a tape-out on schedule: staff augmentation covers a peak, and contract-to-hire lets you convert once you are sure. For the wider role map, including OSAT and fab roles, see semiconductor engineering staffing.

Frequently asked questions
Can we hire VLSI engineers on contract rather than permanently?
Yes. Contract engagements suit tape-out peaks, a specific block or a gap while a permanent hire serves notice. The engineer works in your team on your licences and flow. If you want to keep the engineer, contract-to-hire lets you convert on terms agreed in the contract at the start.
How do you vet design verification engineers?
Practising verification engineers ask candidates to sketch a UVM testbench for a block from your brief, explain their coverage strategy and debug a failing scenario. The written assessment states which simulators, VIP and methodologies each engineer has used in production and which tape-outs they supported.
How long does it take to hire a VLSI engineer in Bangalore?
Notice period is the main variable: experienced engineers commonly serve 60 to 90 days, and many GCCs enforce 90 days. We state notice and joining dates on the shortlist. Engineers available now can start on contract while a permanent hire serves notice.
Do you place DFT and physical design engineers as well as verification?
Yes. We place DFT engineers for scan, ATPG and MBIST, physical design engineers for floorplan through signoff, and STA engineers for timing closure. Each is screened on the tools and node in your brief, and we say when a candidate's experience is on a different node or flow.
Who owns the RTL, testbenches and scripts our contract engineers write?
IP ownership and confidentiality are written into the contract before work starts, normally assigning work product to you. Engineers sign your NDAs and work only on your infrastructure and EDA licences, with access limited to what the role needs.
What if a contract engineer leaves before tape-out?
Replacement terms are agreed in the contract before the engagement starts. Regular check-ins aim to surface problems early. For critical milestones, a small pod under a dedicated-team model spreads knowledge so one departure does not stall the tape-out.
Can VLSI engineers work remotely?
Front-end and back-end engineers often work remotely on your compute farm, subject to your security policies. Post-silicon and ATE engineers usually need to be in your lab or on the test floor. Location is agreed per role.
