Contract to Hire Engineers in India

Contract to hire engineers start on Stalwart Innovations' payroll, working in your team, and convert to your own payroll after an agreed period. You see real work before making a permanent offer, and the engineer's start does not wait on your entity's hiring cycle. Conversion timing and any fee are agreed in the contract upfront.

Why contract-to-hire suits engineering hiring in India

Two things slow permanent engineering hires in India: notice periods and offer drop-outs. Hiring guides such as Quantalent's put notice periods at about 30 days for juniors, 60 for mid-level engineers and 60 to 90 for seniors, and many GCCs enforce 90 days. Counter-offers during that window are widely reported as the main reason accepted offers fall through.

Contract-to-hire shortens the risk on both sides. The engineer starts on contract, working on your real backlog, so you judge them on work products rather than interviews. If both sides want to continue, you convert them to your payroll on terms already in the contract. If not, the engagement ends or a replacement starts under the agreed terms.

The engineer works in your team on our payroll. We handle employment, payroll and compliance.

04

05

Conversion

How evaluation works during the contract

Agree the criteria at the start so the conversion decision rests on evidence, not impressions.

  • Work products: merged code, BSW configurations, test cases, verification plans or safety analyses reviewed by your lead
  • Standards practice: traceability, review records and coverage evidence produced to ISO 26262, ASPICE or DO-178C expectations
  • Debug and ownership: how the engineer handles failing builds, HIL test failures or coverage holes
  • Team fit: communication with your engineers, reviewers and other sites
  • Mid-point and final reviews with your hiring manager, the engineer and Stalwart

Frequently asked questions

How does contract-to-hire work, and when can we convert the engineer?

The engineer starts on our payroll and works in your team. After the contract period agreed at the start, you can make them a permanent offer from your own entity. The conversion window and any conversion fee are written into the contract before work begins, so neither side negotiates terms halfway through.

Does contract-to-hire help with 90-day notice periods?

It can. If you need someone now, an engineer who is available sooner can start on contract while you complete a permanent search. Where your preferred candidate is serving notice, contract-to-hire lets them join our payroll on their release date without waiting for your entity's onboarding cycle.

Does contract-to-hire reduce offer drop-outs?

It reduces the gap in which drop-outs happen. A candidate who has started work on your project is less exposed to counter-offers than one sitting out a long notice period with an unsigned start. We also discuss the conversion basis with candidates during screening, so expectations are set early.

What does a contract-to-hire role mean for the engineer's salary and benefits?

During the contract the engineer is our employee, with salary and statutory benefits paid by us. At conversion they move to your payroll on the offer you make, under your benefits. We discuss the expected conversion basis with candidates before they accept, so there are no surprises. Candidates can read more on careers.

Is there a fee when we convert the engineer?

That depends on the contract. Conversion terms are set per engagement: whether a fee applies, how it is calculated and how it relates to the time served on contract. Whatever is agreed is in writing before the engineer starts, so there is no negotiation at conversion.

What if we decide not to convert?

You can end the engagement on the agreed notice, continue the engineer as staff augmentation, or ask for a replacement under the contract's replacement terms. The decision stays yours, and the engineer is told plainly what the process is at the start.

Which roles suit contract-to-hire?

Roles where hands-on fit matters more than an interview can show: AUTOSAR integration, functional safety, VLSI verification, HIL and test automation and avionics verification. It also suits a new team where you want to build a core group before committing headcount.
