Embedded & Industrial Engineering Staffing, Testing and Services

Stalwart Innovations provides embedded engineering staffing and testing for industrial, energy and connected products. We supply firmware, embedded Linux, driver and test engineers on contract, contract-to-hire or permanent terms, and run embedded software, test automation and IEC 62443 and EU Cyber Resilience Act security testing. Firmware, BSP and porting projects are delivered alongside.

Why embedded security testing is now on the schedule

The EU Cyber Resilience Act applies in two stages. According to Skadden, reporting of actively exploited vulnerabilities and severe incidents has applied since 11 September 2026, including for products already on the market, and most other obligations, including conformity assessment, apply from 11 December 2027. Any connected embedded product sold in the EU now needs a vulnerability-handling process, an SBOM and evidence that updates are delivered securely.

For industrial automation and energy equipment, IEC 62443 sets the technical bar. IEC 62443-4-1 defines the secure development lifecycle, including security verification and vulnerability testing, and IEC 62443-4-2 sets component requirements against security levels SL 1 to SL 4. Both turn into test cases, fuzzing campaigns and documented results that buyers and notified bodies will ask for, which is why test and security engineers are in demand alongside firmware developers.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to hire an embedded engineer in India?

Sourcing is rarely the slowest step; the notice period is. Indian engineers commonly serve 30 to 90 days, with senior firmware and Linux engineers at the longer end. Many teams start an available engineer on contract-to-hire to cover that gap. Send the profile through request engineers with the MCU, RTOS or kernel experience you need.

What is the difference between staff augmentation and a dedicated team?

With staff augmentation individual engineers join your team and your leads direct their work day to day. A dedicated engineering team is a provider-employed group working on your roadmap, with the provider handling hiring, retention and infrastructure. Augmentation suits gaps in an existing team; a dedicated team suits a workstream you want run as a unit.

What does the EU Cyber Resilience Act require us to test, and by when?

Vulnerability and incident reporting has applied since 11 September 2026, and most obligations, including conformity assessment, apply from 11 December 2027. Testing work typically covers SBOM generation and review, vulnerability scanning, fuzzing of network and file interfaces, penetration testing and verification of secure boot and update mechanisms. Start with a gap assessment against the essential requirements; see cybersecurity testing.

What testing does IEC 62443-4-2 involve?

IEC 62443-4-2 defines technical security requirements for components, such as authentication, use control, data integrity and confidentiality, at a target security level. Testing shows each requirement is met: functional security tests, vulnerability scanning, fuzzing of protocol interfaces and penetration testing, following the verification practices of IEC 62443-4-1. Certification itself is carried out by an accredited certification body.

Can embedded firmware tests run in CI on real hardware?

Yes. A common pattern is unit tests on the host, then a bench with the target board, power control, a debug probe and simulated I/O driven by pytest or Robot Framework from Jenkins or GitLab CI. Each merge flashes the build and runs a smoke suite, with fuller regression overnight. See test automation and HIL test bench set-up.

Do you provide test engineers, test benches, or both?

Both. Test engineers can join your team and work on your benches, a managed testing team can own a defined campaign, or we can design and commission a bench for you. Hardware and tool licences are normally bought in your name so the setup stays with you.

Who owns the IP our contract engineers create?

Work created for you is normally assigned to you under the contract, and engineers sign confidentiality and IP terms before they get access. Pre-existing tools or libraries a provider brings are usually licensed rather than assigned. Engineers work on your repositories and systems wherever possible, so source code stays in your environment.
