Why automotive test and hiring demand is rising

Regulation has turned cybersecurity and software updates into type-approval items. UNECE R155 (cybersecurity management) and R156 (software update management) have applied to all new vehicles under EU type approval since July 2024, according to Upstream, and R155 expects a risk assessment and verification testing for each vehicle type. That is sustained work for TARA, fuzzing and penetration-test engineers, not a one-off project.

ADAS validation volume is growing too. Euro NCAP's 2026 protocols are its biggest overhaul since 2009, adding ADAS robustness, HMI and driver-monitoring tests, and one test-equipment vendor, AB Dynamics, reports more than 1,200 ADAS test variations, roughly double the previous cycle. Scenario-based methods built on ISO 34502 and ASAM OpenSCENARIO need both test engineers and simulation capacity.

Behind both sits the shift to software-defined vehicles. McKinsey projects the automotive software and electronics market will reach about $519 billion by 2035, growing around 4.5% a year. In practice that means zonal and central compute, OTA updates and continuous SIL regression before HIL, and engineers who combine software skills with safety, security or validation experience.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to hire an AUTOSAR or functional safety engineer in India?

The main constraint is the notice period. Indian engineers commonly serve 30 to 90 days, and senior AUTOSAR architects and safety managers usually sit at the longer end. Starting an available engineer on contract-to-hire or staff augmentation while a permanent hire serves notice is the usual way to protect the schedule. Share the profiles through request engineers and we will propose a plan.

How do you check real AUTOSAR, ISO 26262 or ASPICE experience?

Reading a standard is not the same as producing work products under it. Screening asks candidates to walk through artefacts they actually built, such as a BSW configuration, an FMEDA or an ASPICE SWE.4 unit verification report, and to work through tool tasks in CANoe or DaVinci. The how we vet engineers page describes the steps.

What testing does UNECE R155 type approval require?

R155 requires the manufacturer to run a certified cybersecurity management system and, for each vehicle type, to show that risks were assessed and mitigations verified by testing. ISO/SAE 21434 is the usual route to that evidence. Typical activities are TARA-driven test specifications, penetration testing, fuzzing of CAN, UDS and Ethernet interfaces, and vulnerability scanning. See cybersecurity testing.

Is fuzz testing mandatory under ISO/SAE 21434?

No single test method is mandatory. ISO/SAE 21434 lists fuzz testing among the methods for cybersecurity integration and verification, alongside requirements-based testing, interface testing, vulnerability scanning and penetration testing, and expects the choice to follow from the TARA. In practice most R155 assessors expect to see fuzzing of the external interfaces, so most programmes include it. See what is fuzz testing.

Do we need HIL if we already run virtual ECUs in CI?

Usually yes. SIL and virtual ECUs move regression earlier and free rig time, but they cannot reproduce real sensor and actuator behaviour, I/O timing, electrical faults or the production ECU hardware. Most programmes run broad SIL regression on every commit and keep HIL as the release gate. The HIL/SIL testing page explains how the two are split.

How do the Euro NCAP 2026 protocols affect ADAS validation?

They add more scenarios and new areas such as ADAS robustness, HMI and driver monitoring, so test matrices grow and rig and track time come under pressure. Teams respond by moving variants into scenario-based simulation with ASAM OpenSCENARIO, keeping physical tests for confirmation, and adding test engineers for scenario authoring and result analysis. See automotive testing.

Do you provide test engineers, test benches, or both?

Both. Test engineers can work on your existing HIL rigs and toolchain under your test lead, or we can run a defined campaign as managed testing. Where a rig does not exist yet, HIL test bench set-up covers specification, configuration and commissioning, with hardware and licences normally bought in your name.

Can your engineers work inside our toolchain and processes?

Yes. Engineers use your requirements tool, ALM, configuration management and benches, such as Polarion, codebeamer, Jira, Vector or EB toolchains and dSPACE rigs. Tool licences normally stay with you, which keeps traceability and audit evidence inside your systems. The core team works from Bengaluru, with onsite phases for bring-up, integration events or assessments.
