Indigenisation, exports and the test workload
Indian defence manufacturing is at record levels. The Ministry of Defence reported, via PIB on 17 June 2026, defence production of ₹1.78 lakh crore in FY26, up 15.6%, with the private sector at about 24%. Defence exports reached a record ₹38,424 crore in FY26, up 62.66%, according to News on AIR, with the private sector contributing 45.16%.
The 6th Positive Indigenisation List, notified on 18 August 2026, added 405 items worth about ₹3,070 crore, mostly line-replaceable units, sub-systems and spares, taking the six lists to 5,417 items, as reported by Defence Standard. Each indigenised LRU needs environmental and EMI/EMC qualification, acceptance test procedures and documentation, which is where test and verification engineers come in.
Test standards are moving too. MIL-STD-461H was released on 17 April 2026 and supersedes MIL-STD-461G. In Compliance Magazine and EMC Directory describe it as a targeted revision focused on clarification and test consistency that needs no new test equipment, but test plans and procedures written to 461G need reviewing. Defence work starts with an NDA and a data-handling agreement, export-controlled data is handled only as your export compliance team approves, and we describe disciplines, never programmes or customers.

MIL-STD-461G vs 461H Changes: What Changed and How to Plan Your EMI Test Campaign
MIL-STD-461H replaced 461G in April 2026. What changed, why the contract decides the revision, and how to plan EMI pre-compliance.
Frequently asked questions
Can DO-178C verification be outsourced, and who signs off?
Yes. Verification activities such as test case and procedure development, reviews, structural coverage analysis and traceability can be carried out by an external team, and for DAL A and B several objectives must be met with independence anyway. Compliance responsibility stays with the applicant, and the certification authority accepts the life-cycle data. The verification team produces the evidence; it does not certify the software.
How do you check real DO-178C or DO-254 experience?
Candidates are asked to walk through life-cycle data they actually produced, such as test procedures, coverage analysis results or review checklists, and to explain how independence and traceability were handled on that project. Tool tasks in LDRA, VectorCAST or Rapita RVS check hands-on depth. The how we vet engineers page sets out the steps.
What changed between MIL-STD-461G and MIL-STD-461H?
MIL-STD-461H, released on 17 April 2026, is a targeted revision rather than a rewrite. Published reviews describe it as focused on clarifying requirements and making test results more consistent between laboratories, and say existing test equipment remains usable. Programmes should still review tailored requirements, test plans and procedures against 461H and agree with the procuring activity which revision applies to their contract.
How long does MIL-STD-810H or MIL-STD-461 testing take?
It depends on how many methods and procedures the tailoring calls for, the number of units, laboratory availability and how many fixes are needed after a failure. Tailoring, test plans, fixtures and pre-compliance runs need planning time before the laboratory slot, and that preparation is what reduces the risk of repeating a formal test. See MIL-STD test planning.
Can you supply engineers for export-controlled or US-based projects?
Export-controlled work is structured around your licences and authorisations, which remain the exporter's responsibility. Depending on what your export compliance team approves, work runs at your facility, on your network and devices, or offshore only where permitted. Nationality, clearance and background-check requirements are agreed per programme before anyone is staffed, and India-delivered and US-delivered scope are kept separate.
Can contract engineers work on site at our facility?
Yes. Defence and aerospace work often needs access to hardware, secure networks or controlled areas, so on-site work at your facility is common. Site access rules, background checks and data-handling terms are agreed before the engineer starts. Engineers can start on contract and convert later through contract-to-hire.
Are you an accredited test laboratory?
Formal MIL-STD-810H, MIL-STD-461 and DO-160G qualification tests are run at an accredited or customer-approved laboratory. Our role is the engineering around them: tailoring rationale, test plans and procedures, fixtures, pre-compliance testing, witnessing support and report review, plus test engineers who join your team for the campaign.
